Ford Mustang GTD: What You Need to Know

The Ford Mustang has been known as a muscle car since its inception in 1964. Well, for the first time ever, Ford is calling the all-new Mustang GTD a “street legal, track ready supercar with the soul of a Mustang.” A track focused Mustang? A supercar? Let’s discuss –

Pricing and Availability:

It should be obvious that this will be no ordinary Ford Mustang. First off, it has an MSRP of $325,000. That easily makes it the most expensive new Mustang ever built. If the price isn’t a turn off, don’t bother walking into your local dealership to inquire about one. It won’t work. In fact, one must submit a relatively lengthy application process via the Ford website. Some poking around the application reveals that Ford is looking for buyers that may have Ford corporate connections, public influence, and/or sizable car collections. The application process even asks one to list the top three most notable cars in the potential buyers collections. This is a similar process that was used when Ford reintroduced the Ford GT in 2016. We can expect about 1,000 Ford Mustang GTDs to be made throughout 2024 and 2025.

Mustang GTD Power and Performance:

Under the hood sits a 5.2 liter supercharged V8 engine that pumps out over 800 horsepower. With a launch to 60 miles per hour expected to take about 3.5 seconds and a top speed around 200 mph, the GTD will undoubtedly be the fastest Ford Mustang to leave the factory. To help maximize performance, the GTD has all carbon fiber body panels and optional lightweight magnesium wheels.

The Mustang GTD will be more than just fast in a straight line with assistance from an option massive whale tail active rear wing and adjustable suspension. The GTD even has a near perfect 50/50 weight balance due to the use of a rear mounted carbon fiber driveshaft that’s connected to the 8 speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Ford is doubling down on the GTD being more than just fast in a straight line claiming the GTD can lap the Nürburgring in less than 7 minutes. That would bring the pony car into impressive company with the likes of the Porsche GT3 and Lamborghini Huracán.

Ford Mustang GTD Overview:

There’s no denying this is the most aggressive looking Mustang to leave the factory. The vented fenders and hood give the car a real track-ready look, while the aggressive front splitter has the Mustang looking meaner than ever. It’s also the least practical to use as the trunk has been replaced with suspension and cooling parts. The interior features parts that were sourced from a retired Lockheed Martin F-22 fighter jet and Recaro bucket seats. The GTD will be customizable per each order, so we can expect to see different color combinations for both the exterior and interior.
